Richard Alan Nichols
"Art is the representation of that which the mind can imagine - but only the heart knows to be true."
Richard Alan Nichols strives to render a visual poem with each brushstroke. Whether brushed in oil, swiped with textured charcoal, or a splashing stroke of watercolor, his creative spirit will always be the sole guide of his art. From the vibrant yellow sunflower petals in a still life, the unnoticed details of a bustling city street, or the evanescent Plein Aire light of the Sangre De Cristo’s Mountains, Richard reaches new heights in Fine Art.
As an internationally recognized artist, his work is highly sought after by many private collectors and is housed in numerous permanent collections; places such as the American Academy of Art, the Crouch Foundation, the Taos Art Museum, the Blumenschein Home and Museum, the Town of Taos, and many major colleges around the United States proudly display his work.
His natural artistic ability was given a strong foundation in traditional impressionism which was nurtured during his studies at the prestigious American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. In addition, Richard has been painting and teaching for over 35 years. His students from the East Studio Art League continue to keep him on his toes as they build a community of artists in Taos, New Mexico, and beyond.
